Don’t miss this gorgeous villa!
Pure design – and an amazing experience – surrounded by green, and all within easy reach of Amsterdam. A perfect fit for generational living.
Unique architectural design
This villa, nestled on the edge of the Waterland forest in Klein-Overgooi, near Amsterdam, is one of the few private houses designed by Mecanoo architects from Delft. Mecanoo architects have gained international recognition, under the leadership of Francine Houben, thanks to designs including libraries, museums, tower blocks, reception and cultural spaces, both in the Netherlands and abroad. Many of their designs have won awards. This very property, this ‘Almere Overgooi home’, was nominated for the Almere Architecture Prize in 2010.
Comfortable and light
The villa’s construction incorporates steel, concrete, wood and glass. The house benefits from lovely lines of sight and abundant natural light. The design consists of two large living units, christened ‘brother and sister’ by the architect, which are connected on the ground floor by a service zone that includes a double entrance. A large covered patio spans the space between brother and sister.
The villa’s upper floors seem to float, thanks to an unbroken sheet of glass around the property (measuring between 2.5 and 3.2 metres in height where it meets the walls). These upper floors house the bathrooms and bedrooms. Viewed from the street, the house is a closed building, but on all other sides floor-to-ceiling glass walls open the home fully to the outside world. Every single room enjoys a direct, uninterrupted view of the park-like garden. The garden and outdoor spaces were also designed by Mecanoo architects. As if that wasn’t enough, all the ground-floor spaces benefit from large sliding doors that open onto a spacious terrace. In total there are six terraces, all situated next to the garden and including two that are fully covered.
The ‘brother and sister’ units each have their own private entrance, a fully equipped Bulthaup kitchen, sanitary facilities, a garage and a separate storage unit, making this villa more than suitable either for ‘generational living’ or as living space for two families. The home would also be an ideal family home, with parents and children having their own living space for maximum privacy but still being connected through the linking zone on the ground floor.
The villa is nestled in the leafy surroundings of Almere Overgooi. This attractive villa neighbourhood is located by the Gooi Lake, directly opposite the Gooi, and is enclosed by forests and a park with large bodies of water. Attractive footpaths and cycle paths lead from right outside the door. The villa’s very favourable location close to the A27 and A6 motorways means that you can be in Amsterdam or Utrecht city centre in under 25 minutes by car. The road connections to Amsterdam are fantastic, even at rush hour! The fantastic rail connections – Almere currently has 6 railway stations – also deserve an honourable mention.
Both in the heart of nature and close to Amsterdam
Living in Almere Overgooi means grand living in the most beautiful of Amsterdam’s suburbs, and the one with the best facilities. You’ll feel like you’re always on holiday, surrounded by greenery and with a great feeling of peace and space, while still being able to get to Amsterdam’s attractive city centre in no time to enjoy its vibrant cultural life. So discover the Waterland forests, the organic market on the Kemphaan city estate and the great children’s climbing forest, all within easy walking distance of the villa. Discover the amazing panoramas over the Gooi and Marker Lakes. Discover literally the most attractive golf course in the Netherlands, or one of the most beautiful Dutch harbours, Muiderzand Marina, from where you can enjoy a day’s sailing on the Marker and IJssel Lakes. Discover the fantastic supermarkets, the brilliant sports facilities, schools and Almere’s modern city centre.
But above all, discover that you are so close to Amsterdam that you can enjoy all the benefits of that city just as the people of Amsterdam do – but without the downsides of traffic and restricted living space.
